Clinical Nurse Educator – Labor & Delivery
Mary Seger Barker, MSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, CIMI, is a clinical nurse educator in the Methodist Women’s Hospital Outreach program. Her focus is labor and delivery education.
“Obstetrics has always been a passion of mine since I entered the workforce,” she said, noting that in her first position she rotated between several units at a small hospital. “I realized within the first year that my true love was labor and delivery.”
That love has blossomed into leading and teaching others. In her role in the Outreach program, Mary strives to keep abreast of the latest education and practices. In addition to providing education for Methodist employees, she tailors standards to rural community nursing staffs.
“I love when students make the connection between the knowledge we provide and how it can be utilized within their clinical practices,” she said. “Seeing the light bulb go off is so exciting and fulfilling to me.”
Mary also is a member of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and is involved in its annual conferences.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, eating, sewing, skiing, walking, running, trail riding and kickboxing. She and her husband are members of their local church, YMCA and Optimist Club. She also loves horses and would consider working or volunteering at a dude ranch after retiring.
