  • Description:  Volunteers will assist administrative departments in paperwork, filing, organization, errands, and other clerical duties as needs. The volunteer may be placed in Community Relations, Human Resources, Volunteer Services or other clerical areas throughout the hospital.

    Qualifications:  Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly and comfortable talking to patients, visitors and staff. The volunteer also needs strong organizational skills.

    Shift:  Monday – Friday, as needed. Flexible days/hours.

    Description: A group of volunteers attends funerals of any of our past and/or current volunteers wearing their Methodist Fremont Health smock/polo.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to family members. Volunteers should be compassionate, caring, self-motivated and able to work with little direct supervision. 

    Shift: As needed.

    Description: Volunteers providing companion care will sit with patients in their rooms and listen and talk with the patient. The presence and empathy shown by the volunteer can counteract negative emotions such as loneliness, sadness, and despair, which can hinder effective treatment. Patient companions play an important role by encouraging positive emotions such as happiness and relief, which can speed up the healing process.  Patient companions do not provide any type of clinical care or medical advice. 

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be empathetic, caring and compassionate. They must observe medical precautions, such as potentially wearing protective clothing, when encountering infectious conditions. They must be able to deal with all age groups and able to deal with sadness, grief, and death, if they become close to patients.

    Shift: As needed.

    Description: Volunteers provide service and interaction with residents, including companionship, playing Bingo, cards, games etc.  Volunteers may also assist residents to and from the in-house beauty shop. Volunteers also help set tables for noon and evening resident meals, deliver mail, newspapers or flowers to resident rooms. Round with a hydration cart. Resident manicures (nail painting only). Watering plants within Dunklau Gardens. Café Assistants to help hold tray and dish up the residents choosing of food.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to residents/family members and visitors. The volunteer also needs to be able to navigate around the hospital and Dunklau Gardens. 

    Shift:  Monday – Friday, as needed with flexible hours.

    Description: Volunteers serve as a support person to the Emergency Department staff, assisting in any way the nurses, doctors and ancillary staff deem necessary, such as changing linens/preparing rooms for the next patient; as a runner; restocking rooms, etc.      

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment. MUST be 19 or older.

    Shift:  Any day of the week.  Flexible hours – days, early evenings.

    Description: Greets and welcomes visitors and staff to the gift shop; runs the register, assist with sales (in person, by phone, online); assist with delivery of flowers and cards to patient rooms; assist staff with checking in new merchandise and pricing; assist staff with inventory.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated and able to work with little direct supervision and be comfortable working with financial transactions, answering questions about merchandise, and general housekeeping in the shop (dusting, arranging merchandise, and replenishing merchandise), etc. Gift Shop Volunteers are required to complete PCI compliance training to work in the gift shop and be knowledgeable of the Standard Operating Procedures in the gift shop. 

    Shift: Monday – Friday. 2 shifts per month 9 am to noon and noon to 3 pm.

    Description: Volunteers will greet, guide, and offer assistance to patients, visitors, and staff throughout the hospital. Volunteers may assist patients by utilizing a wheelchair, escort assistance, and rounding in various areas throughout the facility. 

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. The volunteer also needs to be able to navigate around the hospital and offer directions.

    Shift: As needed.

    Description: Volunteers work under the supervision of the Hospice Department. Hospice volunteers are assigned tasks, such as clerical (filing, phone calls, etc.) or as comfort companions, spending time in the home with hospice patients and their families.  

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be compassionate, caring, self-motivated and able to work with little direct supervision. Additional training is required of Hospice Volunteers, beyond the initial orientation.

    Shift: Flexible, per Hospice needs.

    Description: Volunteers will organize and manage the MFH clothing closet. They will report to the volunteer supervisor supply needs.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated and able to work with little to no direct supervision. They must be organized and be able to bend and lift clothing out of boxes to put on shelves.

    Shift: 2-3 shifts per month.

    Description: Volunteers providing companion care will sit with patients while receiving chemotherapy, listen and talk with the patient, offer a snack or a hot blanket, ice etc. The presence and empathy shown by the volunteer can counteract negative emotions such as loneliness, sadness, and despair, which can hinder effective treatment. Patient companions play an important role by encouraging positive emotions such as happiness and relief, which can speed up the healing process. Patient companions do not provide any type of clinical care or medical advice.

    Description: MFH Volunteers will visit admitted patients to welcome them, help them feel at ease, show support, and help to humanize the hospital experience for them and their families. PEA Volunteers will take “The Cart from the Heart” with them to offer patients items such as adult coloring books, ear plugs, stress balls, phone cords, etc.

    Qualifications: Volunteers must have an understanding of the emotional needs of patients and family members as they present themselves to us for care. Must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrate warmth, tact and caring. Must be discrete and able to use independent judgement. Must be able to communicate effectively with others. Must treat all information about patients, families, hospital personnel and physicians as confidential and an ethical and legal obligation. Must be polite and courteous and have an attitude of service. Must be willing to take necessary training and participate in meetings as called.

    Shift: Monday – Friday 1 shift per week. 2hou-3hrs late afternoon.

    Description: Volunteers will visit patient rooms with the LCC Comfort Dogs, Katie or Phineas  and their handlers, to help enhance the patient experience and healing process. The dog visits also help to reduce anxiety and provide much-needed distraction from illness and hospitalization.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly and comfortable talking to patients, visitors and staff.

    Shift: First and second Monday of the month 11:00am-12:30pm

    Description: Volunteers work alongside of a physical therapist assisting with a variety of tasks including cleaning equipment between patients, restocking supplies for the therapist, remaking of beds, and may assist with clerical support. Volunteers will also set up a patient’s room prior to the physical therapist visit.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly and comfortable talking to patients, visitors and staff. The volunteer also needs to be able to move procedural equipment when needed, as well as pushing patients in wheelchairs.

    Shift: Monday – Friday, flexible day hours.

    Description: Volunteers participating on special projects may work from their home, at MFH and/or at an off-site location. Projects may include sewing, coordinating/planning activities for volunteers, such as a walking group or social activities (BINGO, cards, movies, etc.). Projects may arise throughout the year from MFH departments and/or in collaboration with other community organizations. Pen-pal/Phone calls.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated and able to work with little to no direct supervision.

    Shift: As needed. Some projects may be 1 time a week (inventory of Clothing Closet), others may be 1 time every 2 weeks (such as prepping baby bags). Other projects may be as they arise.

    Description: Volunteers provide information, support, & comfort to families when loved ones are in a procedure. Volunteers maintain a list of family members in order to facilitate staff and physicians finding family members. Volunteers make sure there is fresh coffee throughout the day along with cookies. Later shifts will clean up and assure everything is turned off.

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors, as well as being detail-oriented, ensuring the correct family members are paired with the correct physician during consultations.

    Shift: Monday – Friday. 2 shifts— 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Description: Volunteers provide tours to area school children to various departments within the medical center. The goal of the tours is to expose children to possible careers, present information on the health dangers of smoking, and to alleviate any fears that a child may have when visiting a hospital/Emergency Department as a patient.   

    Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. The volunteer also needs to be able to navigate around the hospital and offer directions.

    Shift: Program currently on hold due to the pandemic.
