Emily Braun, MD, applied to medical school thinking she would become an OB/GYN, however she found herself more interested in caring for newborns during her labor and delivery rotation. Her pediatric rotation only strengthened her desire to work closely with children.

“The physiology and development of that patient population was so interesting,” she said. “I just knew it was the right fit for me.”

Dr. Braun – a pediatrician at Methodist Physicians Clinic – is fluent in English and Spanish and is especially passionate about the relationships she’s built with families in the South Omaha community.

“They’re just very warm and welcoming to the care they receive,” she said. “And they’re really invested in their children’s health care and well-being.”

She has a particular interest in maternal-child health, and as a certified lactation consultant, she enjoys helping families navigate the complexities of newborn feeding. She also likes working with adolescents and has completed additional training in the area of pediatric mental health. Providing the best possible care to all of her patients is her top priority, and she credits her partnership with parents in making that possible.

“They know their children best,” Dr. Braun said. “I really think that a parent’s intuition is invaluable to the care that I’m providing. Health care is a very dynamic process. We have to work together to come up with what works best for each family.”

When she’s not caring for other children, Dr. Braun stays busy keeping up with her own. She and her husband have four kids, which makes for a lot of extra activities and “a comical amount of laundry.” When she does get some time for herself, she enjoys going for walks and reading mysteries late at night.
