Compassionate Comfort Care for Patient and Entire Family

An open letter to those who cared for our mom.

I am writing this letter on behalf of my family.

Our mom, Connie Sapienza was a patient at your facility and stayed on the 6th floor, first the North Tower and finally in the South Tower.

The care our mom received was second to none, from Dr. Hauke, her oncologist, to the hospitalists Dr. Marsh and Dr. Fleckenstein. She was seen by Physical Therapy, Respiratory and Occupational Therapy, all were wonderful, and did such a great job.

We received daily visits from clergy, more often if needed, and were so very thankful for their support. We were seen daily by the pulmonologist, the surgical team, and the nephrologist there at Methodist, and kept informed about her care and recommendations on a daily basis.

Our family had to make some difficult decisions regarding our mom's care, knowing all the while she was receiving the best care possible. Since we had daily input from her team of healthcare professionals we were confident in the decisions that were made, ranging from treating her symptoms, then comfort care to finally hospice where Mom passed away.

We want to especially thank the nursing staff on 6th Floor. It takes special people to do the kind of work they do. The nursing staff was so caring and supportive of our mom and family. Their kindness will never be forgotten, and will always be remembered and appreciated.

I know our family asked a lot of questions, and the nursing staff was always wonderful and took time to explain her care, medications, and educate us regarding her care, every step of the way. The nursing staff on the 6th Floor was very impressive, their communication and teamwork was amazing, and our family felt truly blessed.

The nursing staff was so caring and supportive of our mom and family. Their kindness will never be forgotten, and will always be remembered and appreciated.

We would like to express a very heartfelt thanks to Kim, who was her nurse on several of the days we were there and again the day our family made the difficult decision to change mom's care to comfort care, she was so supportive, diligent in her care of mom, and very kind and patient. We truly felt a special connection and bond with her.

We would also appreciate it very much if you would pass this letter along to all involved in the care of our mom. Methodist Hospital will be the first hospital of choice, and come highly recommended to our family and friends.
