Eighty-seven days!

"I never thought I'd get to the day he got to come home."

During this pregnancy my blood pressure was being monitored very closely as it was really high at my 14 week appointment.

At 26 weeks I noticed my blood pressure was higher at home so I went in to be monitored and ended up staying on hospital bed rest and diagnosed with preeclampsia.

A week later, at 27 weeks exactly, a couple hours after my hospital dinner I was in so much pain in my upper stomach. After an ultrasound and a couple of labs, my liver went 5 fold in 2 hours and it was time for an emergency c-section!

My husband rushed up to be my side. The c-section went great and my 1 pound, 13 ounce little baby boy, Deckard Kenneth "DK" (hubbys preference for a sports nickname) entered the world. As I was laying on the table and they showed DK to me through the isolette, I couldn't believe that he was here and was so scared because he was so little.

I was then put on magnesium sulfate for 24 hours so I was unable to see DK until the following night. When I finally got to visit the NICU and see DK I was so scared. I had no idea the journey we were about to enter to get him home.

I spent every day praying that he would be a little fighter and God answered my prayers! He was on a cpap by day 2/3 and on cpap for less than 2 weeks. At 6 weeks he was moved up to the 4th floor NICU center because he was stable and doing so great.

I will be honest in saying that I wasnt too thrilled about being in there with 7 other babies. After a couple days I realized all the positives and am so thankful for it. DK continued to thrive and grow and eat more and more.

87 days. 87 days spent in the NICU. I never thought I'd get to the day he got to come home. July 3 DK came home- 4 days before his 3 month birthday.

I cannot say enough about the incredible care that we received at Methodist.

The nurses were absolutely amazing. I am so thankful for them. They felt like family and were not only there taking care of my precious baby but were there for me on days were I wasn't as strong as I could be.

I would recommend this hospital to anyone and everyone. I am thankful for this family that I will remember for the rest of my life. Now I am going to enjoy my family of 4 under my own roof!
