Shawn Shanahan to Lead Fremont Health Foundation

Published: Nov. 25, 2019

Shanahan spent the past nine years leading the Fremont Area United Way as executive director. Under her leadership, the Fremont Area United Way moved from a traditional fundraising organization to a community impact organization focusing on basic needs, education, health and income. She helped start the Fremont Family Coalition and, along with a variety of community partners, has championed a number of important prevention programs related to child and family welfare. Shanahan also took a significant leadership role in helping the community respond to the 2019 spring flooding disaster.

“Shawn is a true change agent, and she has helped create tremendous impact through her many years of service in our community. We are happy that Shawn will continue to use her talents in our community through the Fremont Health Foundation,” said Bill Vobejda, vice president of operations at Methodist Fremont Health. “With Shawn’s help, we hope to further expand our available resources to support key areas of our programming. Philanthropy continues to play a critical role in health care, and we are fortunate to have Shawn join our team.”

Helping Students Pursue Health Care Careers

The 18th annual Fremont Health Foundation Golf Classic, held Sept. 16 at the Fremont Golf Club, raised nearly $36,000 to support the foundation’s high school and collegiate scholarship programs. The day was filled with fun, as individuals participated in various activities, including a chance to win a car with a hole-in-one and mega putt.

Scholarships are a fundamental resource for students pursuing health care careers. The Fremont Health Foundation has awarded over $280,000 in scholarships to nearly 300 students since 1989. These scholarships are given to high school students entering college in the fall and to collegiate students who have completed a year of postsecondary education. The foundation also awards scholarships to children of Methodist Fremont Health employees pursuing careers in any course of study.

“Many of these scholarship recipients have gone on to serve our communities as nurses, physicians, physician assistants and therapists,” said Shawn Shanahan, foundation director. “Thanks to the continued support from our community, the foundation can provide even more opportunities to help deserving students from our area realize their dreams.”

Foundation Spring Event Moves to February

For the past seven years, the Fremont Health Foundation has hosted spring gala events, like our famous Derby Parties or, most recently, our amazing Garden Party. These events have been instrumental in supporting the programs and services offered by Methodist Fremont Health. In fact, over the past six years, we have raised over $500,000 from these events. But this year we are working on something new and a little different, so mark your calendars for Feb. 22 at Christensen Field in Fremont. You won’t want to miss this.
