Methodist Infectious Disease Specialist Talks Low Flu Cases

Published: March 18, 2021

It's flu season right now, but the spread of the virus is at a record low. Last flu season, Douglas County reported more than 6,900 positive cases. Since October 1, 2020, the county has reported just 9 cases.

Dr. Jessica Jones is an infectious disease expert at Methodist Health System. She believes things we're doing to slow the spread of COVID-19 are working even better to stop the spread of the flu. That includes masking up along with rigorous hand washing and sanitizing.

"We've never seen something like this where there's such a miniscule number of influenza cases, locally, nationally and globally," Jones said.
