Dr. Bret Elliott Joins Family Medicine Team at Methodist Physicians ClinicPublished: Sept. 3, 2021
Bret Elliott, MD, was drawn to medical school after working as a certified nursing assistant and obtaining a neuroscience degree. With his diverse medical background and variety of interests, one reason the Methodist Physicians Clinic provider chose to specialize in family medicine is because it encompasses all systems of medicine.
“I like taking all these different parts and putting them together in one cohesive picture for patients and coordinating their care,” he said.
Dr. Elliott has special interests in neurology, dermatology, sports medicine and addiction medicine. He’s trained in using Soboxone® to treat opioid addictions, and he’s also skilled at performing vasectomies.
Dr. Elliott’s favorite part of his profession is helping people.
“I know that sounds very cliché, but I really enjoy it,” he said. “It’s fulfilling to me when someone comes into my office with a problem and we work through it together.”
One of Dr. Elliott’s favorite moments in his career was when he recognized that a patient’s back pain was more than it seemed. After pushing for an MRI, Dr. Elliott found a severe infection in their spine – a discovery that likely saved the patient’s life.
“It’s hard to put into words how it feels when you make a difference,” Dr. Elliott said. “That’s why I’m here. It truly brings me joy to help.”
Dr. Elliott and his wife were born and raised in Nebraska. If he weren’t a physician, he would work in a guitar shop with his dogs.
