Methodist Internal Medicine Staff Welcomes Dr. Kalpana Puri

Published: Sept. 20, 2021

Kalpana Puri, MD, chose the specialty that inspires her most – internal medicine.

“I like diversity – knowing about every organ and solving puzzles related to human disease,” she said.

She especially became interested in preventative medicine when she moved to the U.S. from Pakistan. Dr. Puri, who sees patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic, saw how many diseases could be prevented by first getting conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes under control. Her focus on prevention became personal when her grandmother suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on one side of her body – something that affected more than just her grandmother’s life.

To Dr. Puri, The Meaning of Care is about caring for the whole patient – not just the disease. She believes that trust and clear communication are essential to her patient relationships. And she knows that sometimes the best medicine is simply listening to the patient and their family – an important skill that she learned from her mentors.

“I’m a calm and quiet person, and I’m a great listener,” she said. “I’m there to help my patients in all possible ways.”

In her free time, Dr. Puri enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter – being outside, doing kids yoga and cooking their favorite Indian food.
