Dr. Tony DeCicco Joins Methodist Physicians Clinic Cardiology Team

Published: May 20, 2022

Tony DeCicco, MD, will never forget the moment he fell in love with cardiology. On his first day of medical school, an adviser showed his class an image from a cardiac catheterization.

“I thought it was the coolest thing ever,” Dr. DeCicco said. “You can see the anatomy in a way that, well, you don’t get that feeling from a textbook. When I saw that image, I was like, ‘I’m going to do that.’”

Today, the interventional cardiologist with Methodist Physicians Clinic still gets a thrill from his specialized work.

“You get to do things that are really dramatic,” he said. “For example, stopping a heart attack. That’s an oftentimes life-or-death kind of thing you’ve intervened on, and that’s really fulfilling to stop something like that in its tracks. But the bigger deal is it’s a life-changing thing you’ve done for a patient.”

Equally important to Dr. DeCicco is taking the time to build strong relationships with his patients.

“It’s the most fun part of the job, getting to talk to people about what’s going on in their lives,” he said. “If you sit back, take the time and just listen as the patient finishes the story, you get to know them better, they feel like they’ve been seen and heard, and you get to make a more accurate diagnosis.”

Outside of work, Dr. DeCicco enjoys reading and playing the guitar, drums and keyboard.

“I am a nerd. Just remember that,” he said unapologetically. “I’m always trying to learn, whether it’s about medicine or any of my other hobbies.”
