Council Bluffs Family Medicine Welcomes Dr. Tymkowych
Published: March 1, 2016
OMAHA – At age 21, Nadia Tymkowych went on a medical mission trip to Tanzania, Africa and was blown away by the care provided to those in need. That trip resulted in her career choice to become a physician.
Dr. Tymkowych is the newest member of the family medicine practice at Methodist Physicians Clinic in Council Bluffs.
“I worked in a small town in North Dakota as a lab manager,” Dr. Tymkowych said. “I loved the work the family medicine providers were doing. I loved the variety of taking care of babies all the way up to the geriatric population. Because of that I knew early on that family practice would be my specialty.”
She did her undergraduate work at Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She earned her master’s in physician assistant studies at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
Then it was off to the Netherlands, where she attended medical school at University of Sint Eustatius. Dr. Tymkowych returned to Omaha and completed her residency training at Nebraska Medicine - Clarkson Family Medicine.
While attending school in North Dakota, Dr. Tymkowych gained valuable experience at Jacobson Memorial Hospital where she worked as an x-ray assistant, safety officer, infection control officer and lab director/medical technologist.
Those first medical missions trip at age 21, later resulted in two more mission efforts to Haiti and Nigeria.
What is she looking forward to as a new family medicine provider in Council Bluffs?
“I enjoy the patient relationship and building that relationship,” she said. “Getting to know them and their families and what’s special and meaningful in their lives. Determining a patient’s health goals and helping them attain them – it’s a very important part of what we do.”
