Charlene Hills, LCSW, LIMHP, became interested in a mental health career in high school – she was the friend others turned to for support. Now a counselor with the Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program, Hills uses a nonjudgmental approach to establish trust with her clients and ensure that they feel heard.

“I really enjoy connecting with my clients and helping them achieve an increased sense of well-being,” she said. “I want them to know that I’ll always listen to them and respect them.”

Hills enjoys working with clients of all ages. She likes helping young people where they attend school and being available for them during times of crisis. But she also gets fulfillment from working with older adults at community sites and learning from their life stories and experiences.

Her favorite moments are when she and a client can laugh together.

“It helps not only to lighten the mood but also with developing a positive therapeutic relationship,” she said.
