Whatever a client’s age, challenges or circumstances, Danielle Garrison, MS, LIMHP, LMHP, LPC, NCC, wants them to experience The Meaning of Care.
“The Meaning of Care, for me, means that I’m meeting a person where they are in life,” she said. “No judgement. No assumptions. Just a genuine interest and desire to get to know them. It might be simply providing a safe space with grace and willingness to learn more so their goals can be met in a collaborative, constructive environment.”
As program supervisor with the Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program, Garrison is passionate about the difference counselors can make in the community – especially in area schools.
“They get to eliminate so many barriers, nurture relationships and collaborate with teachers and staff to support positive growth and development,” Garrison said. “Students are in a safe environment that’s more familiar to them than an off-site office that may feel intimidating, allowing for a greater chance for building rapport and internal motivation.”
Seeing the positive impact that counseling can have on someone’s life is a feeling that never gets old, she said.
“I’ve had the honor of working with some life-transforming circumstances throughout my career. It’s an incredible privilege to be a witness when someone realizes how to maximize and utilize their personal strengths for their own health and wellness.”
Outside of work, Garrison strives to keep laughter a central part of her life – which is easy, she said, when spending time with family or her two dachshunds. She also admires Audrey Hepburn and many of her quotes, including: “People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed. Never throw out anyone.”
