It was a self-help book that inspired Jim Livingston, MS, LIMHP, to pursue a career in counseling before he even reached high school.

“It opened my eyes to the fact that we all have the potential for a happier and more fulfilling life despite any challenges we may be facing,” he said.

As a counselor and supervisor with the Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program, Livingston works with clients of all ages. His more than 30 years of experience has helped him develop special interests in child and adolescent issues, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, major life transitions, relationship challenges, and stress.

“The most rewarding part of my profession is watching patients grow, transcend struggles and obtain life-changing insights,” he said.

He values the importance of making clients feel safe and meeting their disclosures with “unconditional positive regard.” Working for Methodist, he said, has given him the opportunity to work with like-minded people who are genuinely committed to providing The Meaning of Care.

“It means combining expertise and compassion to deliver exceptional care.”
