Clinical Nurse Educator - NICU

Pam Jacobsen, MSN, RNC-NIC, CPST, felt called to neonatal nursing following her son’s premature birth.

“The nurses who cared for my son inspired me,” Jacobsen said. “I wanted the opportunity to give back to other families with premature or sick babies.” She began her nursing career at the Methodist Women’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in 2010. Although she still provides bedside care there, she now also serves as a NICU clinical nurse educator, providing guidance and resources to individual staff members in an effort to grow their nursing practice. Jacobsen also teaches at Nebraska Methodist College, where she graduated from nursing school.

“I love it when a person’s eyes light up after learning something new,” she said. “When you can see that realization and believe that they’re going to incorporate what they’ve learned into their practice. To have an impact on one nurse who then shares what you’ve taught them with other nurses and patients is incredibly rewarding.”

No matter Jacobsen’s role on any given day, her objective remains the same: “To provide excellent, evidenced-based care and quality educational offerings. I want others to feel valued, empowered and encouraged to make a difference.”

When she’s not caring for babies and educating those around her, Jacobsen enjoys spending time with her children and their significant others, traveling, trying out new recipes, reading, and golfing.
