Community Health Centers A Benefit to All

Community health centers have been innovators in primary care for decades, the keynote speaker said at All Care Health Center’s annual breakfast Friday at Iowa School for the Deaf’s Lied Multipurpose Complex.

The patient-centered care touted since 2007 as a new innovation is what community health centers have been doing all along, said Kathryn Fiandt, associate dean for transformational practice and partnerships at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing.

That concept includes an ongoing relationship between providers and patients, coordination of care and a multidisciplinary team that cares for the whole person, she said.

Among those programs mentioned was the mobile diabetes unit at Nebraska Methodist College.
