When looking for over-the-counter pain relief, the shelves at the local pharmacy or grocery store can be overwhelming. Which one is right for you and how much do you take?

Dr. Bret Hays, with Methodist Physicians Clinic, urges consumers to start with Tylenol.

Why? Because it has the least amount of side effects, but with any medication, there is a cap regarding how much can be taken in a 24-hour period.

Dr. Hays also noted when taking such medications it is often best to do so with a full glass of water and a light snack.
