Dr. Shoemaker Joins Internal Medicine Team at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest

Dr. Lauren Shoemaker has joined the internal medicine staff at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest. She completed her undergraduate degree and medical training at Creighton University, and she was an internal medicine resident at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Her medical interests include women’s health, in particular heart health and preventing cardiovascular disease.

“I find that this is a patient population that has their own unique sets of conditions and care that needs to be provided, and I really enjoy taking care of them,” she said.

Dr. Shoemaker believes effective care is a team effort – doctor and patient working together.

“I believe very strongly in empowering my patients to be involved in their health care,” she said. “I really believe in educating patients and encouraging them to ask questions and be an advocate for themselves.”

That begins, she said, with strong relationships.

“Medicine provides me the opportunity to meet and learn about people from all walks of life. It’s a unique profession in that patients allow us into their lives and entrust us to keep them well and care for them during their vulnerable moments. I really enjoy being able to build relationships, not only with the patient but also with their loved ones, family and support system.”

While she is a Creighton alumna and cheers for the Bluejays on the hardwood, she grew up a Husker fan and wears red on fall Saturdays. Away from work, she enjoys swimming, biking, competing in triathlons, traveling with her significant other and taking their chocolate Labrador retriever on adventures.

Dr. Shoemaker is now seeing patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest (16120 West Dodge Road). Appointments can be made by calling (402) 354-0550.
