George Smith Among Spirit of Courage Honorees

As George Smith lay in his bed at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital — a moment after being told the lump that had been surgically removed from his groin was non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma — one thought came to mind: “OK, so I’m going to die.”

“I looked at my wife just kind of dumbfounded,” Smith recalled.

That was 21 years ago.
