Head and Neck Team Pursuing Center of Excellence Status

Published: March 28, 2018

A prominent head and neck cancer team at Methodist Hospital has begun developing a center of excellence that they hope can serve as a resource for patients and health care providers around the region.

Last week, Methodist hosted a symposium featuring a top Canadian surgeon who shared his expertise and Ontario's experiences in establishing centers of excellence. About 200 health care providers from across a large swath of Nebraska attended the inaugural Dan Lydiatt Honorary Lecture Series. Dr. Dan Lydiatt is the medical director of the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center and the senior member of the head and neck surgical oncology group at the hospital.

Currently, no official certification exists for such centers, said Dr. Bill Lydiatt, a head and neck surgical oncologist at the Methodist cancer center. The team plans to create their own model rather than waiting for one to be established.
