Inside Jennie Edmundson: A Peek at Cancer Conferences

Published: Nov. 11, 2015

It is two minutes before noon on a Friday.

The board room at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital is gradually filling with a mix of surgeons, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncology specialists, primary care physicians, nurses, technicians, dietitians, social workers and other professionals involved in the comprehensive care of cancer patients.

Some take seats at the long table, arranging files and laptops before them. Others fill the chairs that line the walls and prepare to take notes. As the noise level increases, the large television monitors on the walls display a set of pathology slides of cancer at the cellular level.

Tara Slevin, vice president of the Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital Foundation, offers this inside look at the cancer conferences for the Daily Nonpareil.
