KETV Chronicle: Methodist Pediatrician Discusses Back-to-School Anxiety

Published: Aug. 6, 2019

It's the time of year when kids are getting ready to head back to school. Whether it's a new school, new teachers, new classmates or other changes, students can have a lot on their minds.

But how do students and parents distinguish between what's healthy and what's not?

"Having a worry, having a fear, that's a normal part of childhood. We all expect to have those," said Dr. Matthew Gibson, a pediatrician at Methodist Physicians Clinic Regency. "But when you start having them every day ... that's when it starts to become more full-blown anxiety and can cause a lot of issues."

Dr. Gibson sat down with KETV's Rob McCartney in the second part of the latest "Chronicle" segment to discuss challenges students and their parents face this time of year.
