KETV: Eight Month Old Battling Rare Genetic Disorder

Published: July 3, 2015

A Council Bluffs baby is dealing with a rare genetic disorder that causes benign tumors to grow in major organs throughout her body.

Maya Vincent has tuberous sclerosis. The disorder affects one out of every 6,000 newborns. Doctors say it is caused by a gene mutation resulting in overgrown tissues.

Maternal fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Hemant Satpathy, diagnosed the condition in utero.

KETV"s Alex Hoffman shares more of Maya's story and sat down with our Dr. Satpathy to learn more about the rare condition.
