Published: June 27, 2018COUNCIL BLUFFS – Loretta Pierce, BSN, RN, former nurse practice coordinator at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, was honored recently by the Iowa Donor Network with a LEGACI Award.
The LEGACI Award is given in six categories to hospitals or agencies which go above and beyond to collaborate with Iowa Donor Network and ensure its mission of "Working together to transform lives through Organ and Tissue Donation." Pierce was honored as a Nurse Champion.
“Loretta shared ideas about improving the donation culture at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, has been instrumental in reviewing and updating donation policy, identified department leaders and key people to be involved in donation education and events,” wrote John Jorgensen, Iowa Donor Network Donation Services Coordinator in his nomination letter. “Loretta has been a great resource and has been very proactive to create a better and more excited donation culture at Methodist Jennie Edmundson.”
Loretta is now a clinic manager for Methodist Physicians Clinic Women’s Center. In her time at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, she was key in creating monthly donation meetings, developing training opportunities for staff and helped organize an event in honor of Organ Donation Month in April.
The Iowa Donor Network reviewed agencies across the state which demonstrated leadership in eliminating barriers and implementing best practices in facilitating organ donation practices. Loretta met the criteria in several ways and has always taken a supportive and collaborative approach with Iowa Donor Network resulting in a positive donation culture.
Iowa Donor Network's LEGACI Award stands for Leadership, Education, Gratitude, Advocacy, Clinical Excellence, and Innovation and is awarded in each of these categories. For more information, visit: www.iowadonornetwork.org
