Medical team inspires Spirit of Courage honoree

When Mark Engelke learned in 2015 that the lump in his neck was cancerous, he drove from his home in Glenwood to a lot he owns along the Missouri river, where he keeps his boat and camper.

All I could think of was, ‘How do I tell the kids?’” said Engelke, a the father of five and grandfather of three. “I got in that boat by myself and ran up and down the river, full throttle.”

Engelke said the wind, the sunshine and the waves helped clear his head.
