Congratulations to Amanda Hughes, a registered nurse in the Medical-Surgical Unit at Methodist Fremont Health, for being honored with The DAISY Award. Her nominator wrote:
“My dad had cancer and was suffering from complications during his stay. His health started to decline, and he was admitted to the Fremont Methodist Health ICU. Amanda was very attentive to my father's care and his needs, as well as my family's needs. When we began talking about hospice, she helped my mother through the steps, answered her questions and explained to my father what was going on. My mother and brothers were stressed, and our family was trying to figure out a way that my nephew could come back to see my dad before he passed away, as my nephew is in the Army and stationed in El Paso, Texas. We were not having any luck. Amanda stepped in and went above and beyond her role to contact outside resources and made it possible for my nephew to receive special leave to come home. He made it just in time and was able to spend time with my father while he was still alert and oriented. My father was also in the Army and had a special bond with my nephew, so this meant the world to him and my family. Thank you so much to Amanda for taking excellent care and for all of the empathy and understanding she gave to my father and my family. Amanda is an exemplary model of a nurse, and Fremont Methodist Health is very lucky to have her.”
