Methodist Hospital is Nebraska's first to introduce da Vinci SP by Intuitive robot

Published: June 18, 2026

Methodist Hospital is proud to be the first hospital in Nebraska to introduce the da Vinci SP (single port) by Intuitive robot – and the first in Nebraska and Iowa to offer both the SP and da Vinci 5 platforms at the same time.

Designed to perform complex procedures through a single small incision – or sometimes no incision at all – the SP system allows surgeons to operate with enhanced precision and access, while helping reduce recovery time and overall impact on the body.

This technology expands what’s possible for our patients, making it possible to offer advanced procedures like prostate removal for cancer and kidney surgery.

With UroHealth Partners urologist John Bishay, MD, performing the very first SP procedure – at Methodist Hospital and in Nebraska – followed soon after by Methodist head and neck surgical oncologists Anu Panwar, MD and Andrew Coughlin, MD, this milestone reflects the strength of our surgical teams and our continued commitment to bringing leading-edge care to the communities we serve.

"Launching the first SP procedure here at Methodist – and in Nebraska – is an incredible milestone, but it truly reflects a team effort," Dr. Bishay said.

"It speaks to Methodist's commitment to advancing innovation while never losing sight of compassionate, patient-centered treatment," Dr. Panwar said.
