Congratulations to Alli Wood, BSN, RN, CCRN, a care coordinator at Methodist Hospital, for being honored with The DAISY Award.
Her nominator wrote:
“Alli came to my husband's room to speak with me, his wife. As my husband lay dying, we shared an uplifting conversation about the foods I like and funny stories about these that included my husband. She offered to go to the store for me to pick up a few of my favorite things since I hadn't been eating much. I declined but thanked her for the offer.
“As the evening went on, I sat alone in my husband’s room with the TV on to distract me from my pain. My heart was breaking in half watching my husband of 33 years slip away. In walks Alli with a Hy-Vee sack with the items we had talked about! In that moment, I knew angels do walk amongst us. She wouldn't accept a dime. How do you thank someone for an extraordinary kindness? My tears flowed. The next day I drank my cappuccino and ate my bread and cheese. I will never again consume these gifts without thinking of Alli’s compassion and care for someone she barely knew. I will never forget Alli and wish her a life of love for herself and others who are in need of ‘an angel among us!’ I worked as a manager for 44 years, and I have known goodness, but never like Alli.”
