Congratulations to Lauren Brandquist, BSN, RN, a Critical Care Unit staff nurse at Methodist Hospital, for being honored with The DAISY Award.
Her nominator wrote:
“My dad was admitted with a terminal diagnosis. He had been experiencing worsening symptoms and was unable to begin radiation due to severe claustrophobia and anxiety. Our family had already gone through the emotional toll of multiple failed attempts, even with medication. When another radiation session was scheduled during his hospital stay, we were anxious and bracing ourselves for yet another setback.
“That’s when Lauren stepped in. She truly listened to my dad’s fears and treated his concerns with compassion and respect. She took the time to understand what he needed, ensured he had enough time for his pre-medication to take effect and stayed present throughout the process. Her calm energy, patience and encouragement made all the difference.
“We believe Lauren was the reason my dad was finally able to complete his first successful radiation session. It was a huge breakthrough, and we left feeling something we hadn’t felt in a while with this terminal diagnosis ... hope.
“Lauren went above and beyond to make him feel safe, heard and supported. Our entire family is deeply grateful to her for helping him overcome such a big hurdle in his treatment. We truly could not have done it without her.”
