Learn about "New (Old) Treatments in Psychiatry: ECT & TMS” at the next Science Café on Tuesday, January 13, 6 – 7 p.m. at Barley’s Bar and Grill, 114 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs. Free pizza is available.

This Science Café will feature S. Pirzada Sattar, MD, Medical Director for Psychiatric Services for Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Dr. Sattar will talk about available options for the treatment of clinical depression when medications fail to ease the symptoms. Brain stimulation techniques such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can be used to treat major depression that has not responded to standard treatments.

Co-sponsored by Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, The Daily Nonpareil and Barley’s, Science Cafés are casual, face-to-face conversations on current issues led by a doctor, scientist or professional in the field.
