Methodist Physicians Clinic Valley Welcomes Dr. Pehrson
Published: Oct. 23, 2019Dr. Jared Pehrson is passionate about preventative care.
“When I was a kid, my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer,” said Dr. Pehrson, who has joined the family medicine staff at Methodist Physicians Clinic Valley. “That’s always been a main focus of mine, trying to catch things and prevent things before they happen. Colon cancer is a great example of that, where you can prevent most cases just by early screening.”
He originally thought he wanted to be a teacher and coach, but a conversation with his family physician at a high school job fair changed his perspective.
“That really sparked an interest in medicine that continued to grow,” he said. “And years down the road as a family physician, I actually realized that I get to be all of the above. I get to be a teacher, a coach and a physician all wrapped into one.”
He believes education, self-empowerment and teamwork are essential as patients of all ages work toward their health goals.
“The No. 1 thing I’d like patients to know about me is I’m really going to be focused on: ‘How can we empower you to take control of your health care? What can we do to help you take charge and get you the tools that you need to take care of your health in the best way possible?’”
Dr. Pehrson is a Nebraska native. He was born in Wahoo and grew up in Mead and York. After earning his Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he completed his medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He then completed a UNMC rural residency program in Kearney. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has more than 10 years of experience practicing in hospitals and clinics in Nebraska.
An avid family man, Dr. Pehrson enjoys spending most of his free time with his wife, Laurie, and their four very busy children. He also loves exercise and fitness, going to the movies, listening to a wide array of music, watching college football, spending time outdoors, and snowboarding.
Dr. Pehrson is now seeing patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic Valley. Appointments can be made by calling (402) 359-2277.
