Methodist Women's Hospital Sets Record With 5 Sets of Triplets in NICU

Published: Jan. 21, 2021

The Methodist Women's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is starting the year off with a record five sets of triplets. Previously, the most sets of triplets cared for at the same time was three.

"The parents are happy. We are happy. It’s an amazing thing. It rarely does happen that we have five sets of triplets in the unit at the same time, but it’s just a reflection of the good work the team does at the Methodist Women’s Hospital. We are really grateful and excited," said Dr. Chinyere Oarhe, a neonatologist at the hospital.

Doctors say triplets are usually not very common, but they are becoming more common due to advancements in fertility technology.

Dr. Oarhe said the staff at Methodist have been working together to care for all the babies, who are all healthy and on track to go home soon.
