Methodist's advanced lung program is Nebraska's 1st to use Van Gogh™ Microscopy System

Published: Jan. 21, 2026

Congratulations to pulmonologist Dr. Adam Wells and his team for being the first advanced lung disease program in Nebraska to use the Van Gogh™ Microscopy System. The team first used the microscope on Jan. 12 at Methodist Hospital.

This new microscopy system provides real-time feedback on tissue adequacy during bronchoscopy, helping confirm the team has captured meaningful material while the patient is still on the table.

"Unlike traditional approaches, it can provide this insight without consuming the specimen, helping preserve enough tissue for definitive pathology and molecular testing that guides precision lung cancer treatment," Dr. Wells said. "Ultimately, this means fewer biopsies, fewer repeat procedures and faster, more confident treatment decisions for patients to keep us at the forefront of care in the region."
