Published: May 12, 2017

An Omaha woman who had the Zika virus while pregnant gave birth Tuesday at Methodist Women's Hospital to a healthy baby, alleviating concern that the child would be born with a birth defect.

Evelyn Suastegui was the first pregnant woman in Nebraska to have a confirmed case of the mosquito-borne virus.

Baby Amy Elena was delivered by Methodist OB/GYN Dr. Brian Karre and Evelyn received care before her delivery from Methodist Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Dr. Hemant Satpathy.
