Neonatologist Dr. Joshua Euteneuer Joins NICU Team at Methodist Women's Hospital
Published: Aug. 6, 2020Joshua Euteneuer, MD, a neonatologist who has joined the staff at Methodist Women’s Hospital, knows the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) can be a roller coaster for families. That’s why he’s committed to supporting them during what can be a stressful time.
“I have four children myself, and I know the worries that come with being a parent,” he said. “I just try to remember what it was like being a parent of a newborn and help parents through that experience. There are days to celebrate and days of joy, and there are really scary days, too. It’s an incredible journey, but we’re with you on that journey the whole time.”
He added: “Part of caring for the babies is making sure that the families are getting what they need, too.”
Dr. Euteneuer – known as “Dr. Josh” by families – considers new parents to be just as important to a baby’s care as the NICU staff, and he loves the relationships he builds. He’s always excited to receive cards, emails and other updates on how his former patients are thriving.
“It’s amazing how in the grand scheme of things you’re involved in so little time in the lives of these babies, but the families don’t forget you,” he said. “Those babies and those families have an impact on us, too. I guess that’s why you get into the job. You hope to have that impact on the families and their children.”
Dr. Euteneuer earned bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before studying medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He completed his pediatric residency at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine. He completed fellowships in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatric clinical and developmental pharmacology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He also earned a master’s degree in clinical and translational research at the University of Cincinnati.
