Patient Letters Express Heartfelt Thanks at Jennie Ed

Published: March 15, 2016

Handwritten and addressed to the doctors, nurses, radiation therapists and other caregivers at the Methodist Jennie Edmundson Cancer Center, the thank-you cards and letters come from all over. But the emotions they convey come directly from the heart.

"I want to thank all of you for the great care you gave me during my treatment. You have helped me through my trials, my ups and downs. You have the hands of God to help like you have.”

The cards and letters the department receives are kept in thick three-ring binders in the office of Michelle Kaufman, who serves as director of oncology services at the cancer center. One of many caregivers who were born at Jennie Edmundson, Kaufman has worked at the hospital for 25 years, and has been a radiation therapist for the past 20 years.

Tara Slevin, vice president of the Methodist Jennie Edmundson Foundation, shared how meaningful patient letters are to the staff with the Daily Nonpareil.
