Rare Identical Triplets Arrive at Women's Hospital

Published: July 24, 2017

For Lindsey and Derek Teten the struggle to become pregnant was real. After nine months and no pregnancy, they were ready to consider medical intervention.

Then came December 2016 and right before Christmas the pregnancy test was positive. An appointment with their local physician in Nebraska City revealed some exciting news. Three heart beats were discovered as well as some other surprising news.

The three babies were sharing a placenta and that's when Lindsey and Derek were referred to the maternal-fetal medicine team at Methodist Women's Hospital.

On January 9th, the couple discovered they were pregnant with spontaneous identical triplets - a pregnancy that occurs in about one in every one million pregnancies.
