Retired air medical pilot and vocal cord cancer survivor inspires others at Methodist laryngectomy support group

Methodist Hospital has created a one-of-a-kind way to support patients with their Midwest Speaks Out support group.

The group is helping laryngectomy patients find their voice again.

Friday's meeting eased minds for members, who heard from the Omaha Fire Department on how to provide care and speak to first responders when someone with an artificial larynx needs it.

Since beginning last year, the group has grown, some members even traveling 200 miles to attend.

Included in the group is retired air medical pilot, John Linke.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 vocal cord cancer in 2018, causing him to have his voice box removed, but that never stopped Linke.
