Why Methodist?

As a leader in lung and pulmonary care, we use a collaborative approach and the most advanced treatment options for patients with chronic respiratory conditions, lung and thoracic issues, and challenges with sleep quality. Our team of experts shares a common goal: to detect, test and treat lung conditions as early and accurately as possible to ensure the best possible care.

Detect

For many lung conditions, including cancer, early detection is crucial to successful treatment and survival. Methodist is home to the region’s preeminent lung cancer screening program, which performs thousands of low-dose CT scans annually for patients at risk for lung cancer. Meanwhile, Methodist’s Incidental Pulmonary Nodule Program uses cutting-edge software to help identify cancers that may otherwise not be found until later stages. Combined, our efforts catch more lung cancers earlier.

Test

Methodist was the first health system in the region to use the Ion by Intuitive robot-assisted biopsy system, which allows providers to perform biopsies of smaller and harder-to-reach lung nodules – catching cancer sooner while offering patients a less invasive experience. Methodist also offers a complete slate of pulmonary testing, including lung function evaluations and cardiopulmonary stress testing. Home and in-clinic sleep evaluations also help set patients on the path to better sleep.

Treat

Patients with lung cancer benefit from an individualized treatment plan developed during a multidisciplinary care conference with specialists in surgical oncology, medical oncology, pulmonology and cardiothoracic surgery. Treatment may include medication, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, followed by pulmonary rehabilitation as part of healthy recovery. Methodist was the first system in the region to offer a start-to-finish robotic treatment approach, pairing Ion biopsy technology with the da Vinci XI robotic-assisted surgical system to identify and remove cancer.
