Clinical Nurse Educator - Labor and Delivery
Kayla Brickell, MSN, RNC-OB, RNC-IAP, C-EFM, is a clinical nurse educator in the Methodist Women’s Hospital Outreach Program. Her focus is labor and delivery education.
“The miracle of birth never ceases to amaze me,” said Brickell, who has been part of the Methodist family for over 20 years. “I’m especially drawn to high-risk obstetrics and improving maternal/fetal mortality by providing education to those who are caring for obstetric patients. I love working alongside nurses, obstetricians and maternal-fetal medicine providers to deliver quality care to our patients.”
Whether at the bedside or with colleagues, teaching is her passion. And collaboration with patients and staff are key to providing The Meaning of Care, she said.
“The Meaning of Care is being committed to providing respectful, compassionate care to others while working together as a team,” she said. “It’s going beyond immediate physical needs and meeting each individual where they are mentally, as well as assessing their social determinants of health. Patients who trust their providers are more likely to be engaged and follow their plan of care, increasing positive outcomes.”
Outside of work, Brickell can be found spending time with her family – her three daughters are each named after New York Yankees players (Mattingly, Ruth and Maris). She also enjoys attending church activities, exercising, traveling, reading, watching Netflix and listening to podcasts and webinars.
