24 nursing students complete Methodist’s Summer Nurse Fellowship Program
Published: July 31, 2025
Twenty-four nursing students recently completed Methodist’s Summer Nurse Fellowship Program. During the eight-week program (May 19-July 11), students spent time in clinical care areas learning alongside Methodist nurse preceptors and educators.
Each of the participants will begin their final year of nursing school in the fall, with most expected to graduate in May 2026.
Many of the students applied for positions within the health system after the program or will plan to apply when they graduate and transition to their nursing careers.
Nine postsecondary institutions were represented in the fellowship: Nebraska Methodist College, Creighton University, Bryan College of Health Sciences, Midland University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Missouri, Morningside University, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of South Dakota.
This summer marked the second year of the fellowship program after 11 students participated in the 2024 cohort.
Here are some student reflections of the program:
“My favorite moment was hearing from all the other fellows about their experiences on different floors and seeing how we could all relate to what we learned even if we were on different units with different populations. I liked making connections with other nursing students who I could lean on for support and get advice from for the future.” - Audrey
“My favorite day was getting to follow the patient from pre-op to watching open-heart surgery and then recover them on our floor. It was amazing to see the whole process and see the patient recover so well. Being on the floor the next few days allowed me to see the progress made in just a short time, and eventually discharging the patient was super rewarding.” - Mia
“I learned to feel confident in myself.” - Ava
“This fellowship made me feel safe to learn and truly pushed me to become better.” - Kaydence
