Published: May 21, 2026
Congratulations to the Methodist Hospital Medical-Surgical Unit for being honored with All-Pro Nursing Team recognition from the American Nurse Journal, the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Nurses Association.
All-Pro Nursing Team recognition highlights nursing teams from across the country that have undertaken projects that focus on areas such as patient safety, improved outcomes, nurse wellness and staff retention.
The Methodist Hospital unit achieved third runner-up recognition for its initiative to transform the patient experience while strengthening nursing staff teamwork. The work was led by the Medical-Surgical Unit’s Unit Based Council (UBC), which implemented several strategies designed to improve communication, teamwork and patient-centered care.
The result: Measurable improvements in staff responsiveness and communication with patients. Additionally, the unit achieved significant improvement in HCAHPS scores in 2025:
- Likelihood to Recommend: 89th percentile (up from 75th percentile in 2024)
- Communication with Staff: 80th percentile (up from 49th percentile in 2024)
“This recognition is a testament to the commitment our team and reflects the dedication and compassion each team member brings every day,” said Heather Rolling, MSN, RN, PCCN-K, NE-BC, service leader for the unit. “Through hard work, collaboration and a strong focus on process improvement, we have continued to elevate patient satisfaction and improve patient outcomes.”
Rolling stressed the importance of shared governance and the leadership of the UBC throughout the initiative.
“Shared governance in nursing empowers nurses to collaborate in decision-making, strengthens professional accountability and promotes a culture of respect, teamwork and excellence in patient care,” Rolling said.
Members of the UBC are Alyssa Pinales, Kylie Gutierrez, Liz Grandizio, Briana Finch, Mandy Pelster, Hannah Barrett, Maci Saxton, Bailey Emsick and Stephanie Bailey.
