A common side effect: Lymphedema affects more than 30% of cancer patients

Fremont resident Vicky Kiefer immediately knew something was wrong when she woke up one morning and found that her left arm had swollen so much that her “hand looked like a catcher’s mitt.”

The now 81-year-old breast cancer survivor quickly realized that she, like one-third of all cancer patients, would now be living with a condition called lymphedema.
