Family Ties: Sami and Fouzia Mohsini have built many family-like relationships at Methodist

Published: July 19, 2024

A common sentiment of Methodist employees is that their coworkers feel like family. For some employees, that's a reality because their spouse, sibling, child or other relative also works for the health system.

In this feature, you'll learn more about Sami and Fouzia Mohsini, who believe Methodist “truly is The Meaning of Care.

How long have you been married? Tell us more about your lives outside of work.

We’ve been married for eight years in November. We have two beautiful children and another on the way. We love to try new foods and grill when the weather allows. We enjoy road trips and sporting events, and our little fish love to swim at the pool or beach. We’re fortunate to have family in town and often get together for quality time.

How did you meet?

We met and got to know each other through community events when Fouzia was finishing her pharmacy education. We actually first met when we were kids. Fouzia's family had come to wish Sami's family a wonderful holiday and we went to the park to swing. We got engaged/religiously married after Fouzia completed her residency and had our marriage ceremony a year later after Sami finished his nursing program in Lincoln.

Tell us a little bit about your current roles at Methodist.

Fouzia is a pharmacist and staffs most areas of Methodist Hospital, and she occasionally goes out to Methodist Women's Hospital. This summer will mark 10 years for her at Methodist. She also serves as the Creighton University School of Pharmacy APPE preceptor for fourth-year pharmacy students.

Sami is a nurse on Cardiovascular Critical Care Unit (9 North) at Methodist Hospital. He also helps train new nurses on the floor and students. He enjoys the fast-pace environment of 9 North along with the critical thinking required.

How did each of you find your place at Methodist?

Fouzia’s aunt Robbie Baerde had been working as a nurse at Methodist for several years and encouraged her to apply for the residency program at Methodist Hospital. Fouzia started her journey with Methodist Hospital as the pharmacy resident in 2014 after completing pharmacy school at Creighton University. After completing a year of residency training, she obtained a position as a patient care pharmacist at Methodist Hospital and shortly after a PRN position at Women's Hospital.

Fouzia had already been with Methodist for two years when we decided to settle in Omaha. Sami had just finished his nursing program in Lincoln and was in search of a position in Omaha. He had heard many good things about Methodist through Fouzia and others, so he decided to pursue his career here. Throughout his time, he has not only transitioned from floors but also attended Nebraska Methodist College to further his nursing education.

What is it about Methodist that keeps you coming back?

The family-like relationships we’ve built over the years with not only individuals within our departments but also elsewhere throughout the hospital – that’s what keeps us here. Our children are part of the Methodist family, having been born at Women’s Hospital and being cared for by Methodist providers. We know that Methodist truly is The Meaning of Care and have trusted the health system to care for our loved ones.

Methodist really is a big family. We have staff from all around the world. Many staff members have family members who work at the same hospital or at a Methodist Physicians Clinic location.
