Heart Disease No Longer No. 1 Killer in Nebraska

Published: Aug. 30, 2016

A new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals heart disease is no longer the number one killer in Nebraska. Cancer has surpassed heart disease in 22 states.

Cardiologists say while this is good news, they still see cases of heart disease every day, stressing the importance of taking the initiative.

"Your physician can only do so much with drugs and it probably seems like we lecture you when you come to see us, but we know what a difference it makes and we know what will make you live longer in life," says Dr. Michael Peters, Methodist Physicians Clinic cardiologist.
