Methodist Bariatric Surgery Staff Welcomes Dr. White
Published: March 8, 2019OMAHA – In over 20 years as a surgeon, Dr. Tom White has been involved with about 4,000 laparoscopic weight loss procedures.
A surgery might take 30 minutes, “but you can make a pronounced effect on people’s lives,” he said.
Dr. White has joined the Methodist bariatric surgery staff. He previously was a general surgeon at Midwest Surgical Associates in Omaha.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed a five-year surgical training program there.
At Methodist, he will perform sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and Orbera intragastric balloon procedures, as well as general surgeries.
In addition to delivering often dramatic results, Dr. White enjoys the long-term relationships he has with weight loss patients.
“Weight loss surgery is kind of different from most general surgery procedures because you really develop lifelong relationships with those patients,” he said. “My patients are going to get great quality care, as well as accessible care.”
He’s excited to join Methodist because the system’s culture aligns with his own.
“They have a great approach on how to treat patients,” Dr. White said. “They truly treat patients like they’re family.”
That same approach has served him well through decades of care.
“I used to tell my residents that I only have one rule, and that’s to take care of your patients like they’re your family,” he said. “If you do that, everything else falls into place.”
Dr. White is now seeing general surgery and bariatric patients at 8111 Dodge St. Appointments can be made by calling 402-354-1320.
