Methodist Fremont Health Celebrates Administration of 500th COVID-19 Antibody Treatment
Published: Nov. 4, 2021Last month, Methodist Fremont Health reached a milestone as it provided its 500th monoclonal antibody treatment for COVID-19 patients.
"Giving this many doses to the community prevented some hospitalizations, and we already have problems with the surge of patients at this time and over this whole period of time," said Dr. Angela Sukstorf, infectious disease specialist and medical director of quality. "So it really lowered the pressure on the hospital and also prevented complications, deaths and hospitalizations with COVID."
The treatment, which involves giving COVID patients monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs, is meant to prevent advancement of the disease by blocking the virus from replicating and causing organ damage. Since November 2020, the Fremont hospital has given 528 doses, she said.
