Methodist Hospital Critical Care Unit receives AACN’s Beacon Award

Methodist Hospital’s Critical Care Unit recently became the first adult intensive care unit in Nebraska to be honored with the gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

“Our unit is very proud to achieve this designation,” said Christina Queen, BSN, RN, GERO-BC, service leader of the Critical Care Unit at Methodist Hospital. “It recognizes that our evidence-based practices lead to quality outcomes, a safe environment and patient satisfaction. We have an outstanding team, and being the first in Nebraska to earn this award reinforces what we work to achieve each day.”

According to the AACN, the Beacon Award comprises three distinct modules: patient outcomes, work environment and nursing workforce. This award recognized that Critical Care patients at Methodist Hospital receive outstanding care from a staff that makes patients their priority. It’s also a reflection of the collaborative, trusting and supportive work environment that is essential in an adult ICU.

Methodist Hospital was one of 52 hospitals nationally to achieve this status.
