Methodist Physicians Clinic Regency Welcomes New Pediatrician

Published: July 27, 2016

OMAHA  - Kids are fun and so is Dr. Matthew Gibson. Just ask him about one of his favorite memories from his pediatric residency training.

“I was up seeing a patient and he was kind of distraught that his parents had left the room for a bit,” Dr. Gibson said. “After a few minutes he asked if I’d help him build a fort out of pillows and blankets. So I did. I climbed in the fort with him and watched TV. It was so fun to be a kid with him. It’s tough for a kid when they are sick. But building that fort normalizes it for them.”

Dr. Gibson is a graduate of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he majored in English and graduated with highest distinction. His medical school training was completed at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

“I chose pediatrics because kids are fun,” he said. “They will always have a positive outlook and you get to know them as you care for them. You get to see them grow – watch their personality evolve. You also get to see their parents and help them navigate the process. I fell in love with that.”

Dr. Gibson’s residency training has been done right here in Omaha at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Creighton University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital.
