Methodist Physicians Clinic welcomes Dr. Gerson Manriquez to OB/GYN lineup

Published: Sept. 5, 2024

Gerson Manriquez, MD, experienced health disparities firsthand during his childhood.

“That just made a huge impact on me growing up,” he said. “And at that time, I was determined to do something, not just for my family, but also for the greater good — for the community as a whole.”

Dr. Manriquez, an OB/GYN at Methodist Physicians Clinic, gained an interest for science in high school.

“I chose to pursue the medical field because I knew I could combine my love for science and passion to serve marginalized communities,” he said.

He believes in the importance of building connections with his patients.

“You have to be able to listen to a patient,” he said. “You have to be able to hear what they’re saying to you. That’s going to just build the relationship that is hopefully going to last long. I think by doing that, not only are you providing good or excellent care for the patient, but you’re also trying to become somebody who they can rely on. Somebody that they feel comfortable sharing what they’re experiencing or going through.”

While Dr. Manriquez enjoys all things related to OB/GYN, he particularly enjoys the variety of each day.

“One minute you can be in the clinic with a patient. The following minute you can go to the labor and delivery floor for a patient that you’ve had for months,” he said. “And maybe the following day you’re doing surgery on one of your patients.”

When he’s not in the clinic or hospital, Dr. Manriquez enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and partaking in outdoor activities.
